Hillcrest Real Estate

The Hillcrest area of San Diego is famous for its vibrant culture that you won't be able to find anywhere else in the city. As San Diego's first suburb and one of the most close-knit urban neighborhoods anywhere, Hillcrest has had time to develop a history that it considers distinctly its own.

As the hub of San Diego's gay and lesbian lifestyle, Hillcrest takes pride in establishing a reputation of acceptance and creativity. It draws the most people in for its annual Gay Pride parade, the largest parade in San Diego. It also hosts CityFest annually, a celebration of Hillcrest's diverse businesses. First timers in the neighborhood drawn in for the fun are delighted to discover the wide variety of shopping and dining here. Antique, used book and CD stores and specialty shops are all features that draw visitors in weekend after weekend.

Hillcrest is a tight knit urban community. Despite the many people that run through the area day after day, residents know each other by name and frequent each other's small stores. Community activities here are always popular and well attended. Hillcrest residents pride themselves on their ability to have fun.

Hillcrest is geographically located on some of the best property in San Diego. Just north of Balboa Park, it is within walking distance of the San Diego Zoo, the city's museums and the park's open spaces reserved for playing with dogs, picnicking or just walking around on a Sunday afternoon. It is just a short drive from the excitement of downtown, and just slightly longer to get the beaches of San Diego.

There are a few Hillcrest real estate options for those looking to purchase property here. Some space is available for lease above the shops of University Avenue. These are mainly lofts redesigned for living areas. But if you're looking for more space, there are great single family detached homes just blocks from the commercial center of the community. These homes are modest sized houses, built for middle income families. Most are carefully tended and in great condition. The average home sales price of $683,723 was reported in February 2006.
