“The City” is how locals refer to San Francisco, is composed of over 24 distinct neighborhoods, each with its own unique charm, demographic, and characteristics. San Francisco is surrounded by the beautiful Golden Gate National Recreation Area to its North, and the technology and life science hub of the peninsula and Silicon Valley to its south. San Francisco has always been one of the top tourist destinations in the United States. While the actual city measures only 49 square miles, there are hundreds of top-quality restaurants and internationally known dance clubs. There are fantastic shops, boutiques and art galleries in the area also. With all of its diversity, beauty, and colorful people, San Francisco is a wonderful city to call home.
The real estate market in San Francisco is a notoriously competitive. While the market has cooled somewhat, some condominiums or homes are known to sell well over asking price. The prices of homes, condominiums, and Tenancy in Common (TIC) can vary wildly by neighborhood. The high real estate prices contribute to the fact that two-thirds of San Franciscans rent their apartments.
The architecture in the city is made-up of four main styles of homes and buildings: the popular and often depicted Victorians, the Edwardians, the 1920's stucco buildings, and the new modern high rise apartments that can mostly be found in the South Beach, SOMA, or Financial districts. In fact, there are more restaurants in San Francisco than any other city in the country. The city is also incredibly popular with a diverse cross section of people, from social liberals to financial conservatives. They all live in one city, though often in different neighborhoods.
The beautiful city is famous for its fog, cold summers, and great food. Tourists from all over the world flock to San Franicsco to view the Golden Gate Bridge, the Coit Tower, Alcatraz Island, Golden Gate Park, and of course, Fisherman's Wharf. The weather in San Francisco is typically very mild, and the evenings can get a bit chilly when the night time fog rolls in--no matter what season! Locals usually carry outerwear with them year round to cover the varying temperatures that can arise throughout the day.
