The demographic profile of the area is split almost equally between renters and homeowners. Home sales in Mountain View are dominated by the sale and resale of condominiums. Mountain View is in the heart of Silicon Valley and is home to many single professionals, students and professors (Stanford University and Santa Clara University are close by), and young families.

Families in particular are attracted to Mountain View real estate because of the highly respected school system. Specifically, 99% of high school seniors graduate from high school, and a large percentage of those graduates go on to pursue higher education opportunities. Commercial real estate is moving in the town as well, and a number of high tech and life science companies call Mountain View home.
